Intermediate/Advanced Level
2.30pm - 4.00pm
Written by E.T.A. Hoffmann, Coppélia tells a story of the mysterious dollmaker Dr Coppélius who owns a beautiful life-sized mechanical doll, Coppélia. The mysterious girl sitting on the balcony of Dr Coppélius’ house catches the eyes of a village young man named Franz who is engaged to Swanilda. However, Franz does not realise that Coppélia is a doll whom the toymaker is trying to bring to life with a magical spell. Swanilda decides to masquerade as Coppélia and plays along with Dr. Coppélius’ spells. Love triumphs over all in this comedy of mistaken identity and the finale is a joyful celebration of the lovers’ wedding.
