RAQUEL YEO

PRINCIPAL BALLET EDUCATOR
It all began with a dream.
My mother had a passion for dance and hoped that I would share it too. She decided to enrol me for my first ballet class when I was 6 years old. As years went by, I discovered how dancing had brought much liberation to me as I developed my identity as a young artist. With much support from my family, I continued pursuing this art form at a higher level.
At the age of 19, I attained the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Advanced 1 certification.
Throughout my journey as a dancer, I have been educated in other dance genres such as Chinese dance and the Latin ballroom dances. In 2008, I was given the opportunity to train at the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy for a week with pre-professional dancers.
Being a seasoned dancer and performer for more than two decades, I have taken part in numerous dance productions and performances for brands like OMEGA Watches and The Westin Singapore. I was also featured in Episode 8 of MediaCorp's Channel 8 drama serial, Love at First Bite.
In 2015, I was placed fifth in the RAD Dance Challenge as a choreographer and competitor.
As a passionate ballet dancer myself, I hope to impart my knowledge of dance to others.
I hold a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies accredited by RAD and am currently a RAD Registered Teacher. Being an experienced educator, I believe in the importance of creating a safe and respectful learning environment where my students can feel positive about themselves and believe that they can achieve their personal goals progressively.
I also believe in maximising my students’ potential and performance through supplementary fitness training. This has led me to become certified in the Progressing Ballet Technique and FLX Flexibility Training methods.
In addition, I have graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Education) from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. I also hold a Diploma in Communications and Media Management and a Certificate in Psychology Fundamentals from Temasek Polytechnic.
Prior to this venture, I was an experienced academic teacher who specialised in teaching the English language and Social Studies in a Ministry of Education (MOE) primary school for 6 years.
