Ballet Appreciation Series:
La Esmeralda
Act I Esmeralda Variation Workshop
Intermediate Level
26 & 27 August 2023
9.00am - 11.30am
This August, join us to learn the beauty and technicalities of Esmeralda’s variation from the ballet La Esmeralda.
In 19th-century Paris, La Esmeralda follows the captivating gypsy dancer Esmeralda, caught in a love triangle between the nobleman Captain Phoebus and the hunchbacked bell-ringer Quasimodo. As the story unfolds, Esmeralda's fate intertwines with themes of love, betrayal, and the struggle for acceptance in a society filled with prejudice and obsession.
Over the 2-day workshop, you will be immersed in the story of La Esmeralda. The workshop includes a short sharing about the ballet, technique classes and a study on Esmeralda variation in Act I. Dancers will have the opportunity to learn to dance with a tambourine. The workshop will culminate in a showcase where participants will have the opportunity to perform the variation for their family and friends on the last day.
