Ballet Appreciation Series:
The Nutcracker

A Performance Workshop for Children

14 & 15 Dec 2022
3.00pm - 5.00pm

About The Nutcracker:

It is Christmas Eve at Clara's house. Clara is waiting eagerly for the arrival of her godfather, Uncle Drosselmeyer. As he is a toymaker, he brings gifts for the children at the party and gives a wooden nutcracker doll to Clara. Fritz, Clara's brother, pushes a big nut into the nutcracker's mouth and the doll is broken. Clara is sad and Uncle Drosselmeyer offers to fix the broken doll.

The party comes to an end. It was bedtime. Unable to sleep, Clara creeps downstairs looking for the Nutcracker. As the clock strikes midnight, strange things begin to happen. The whole room seems to grow bigger and bigger. The mice living under the stairs become gigantic and begin to attack Clara. After the Nutcracker wins the battle against the mice, he magically transforms into a prince.

The Nutcracker Prince invites Clara to join him on a journey through the Magical Forest, where they meet the Snow King and Queen and see the Snowflakes dance. Clara and the Nutcracker Prince continue on their journey as they travel on a cloud to the Land of the Sweets where they were treated to a celebration of dance.
